Serie A against the commissioner in the FIGC in place of Malagò: "Inappropriate. Respect for the autonomy of football"
Tomorrow, Tuesday 6 October, will be a crucial day for the future of Italian football. The CONI National Council must rule on the proposal to place the FIGC under administration following the alleged ineligibility of the already elected federation president Giovanni Malagò.
Backing the former CONI president today was Lega Serie A, which issued an official statement in defence of Malagò.
Serie A dissociates itself
"Serie A Lega Calcio dissociates itself and distances itself from the apparent legal dispute, whose legal basis and political motives it does not understand."
Full support for Malagò
"Giovanni Malagò, Serie A's leading candidate, was elected by a wide margin and the league continues to give him its full backing"
A commissioner who is entirely inappropriate
"While respecting the principles and rules of the Federation and Coni, Serie A believes the appointment of a commissioner is wholly inappropriate, not least because it could plunge football into chaos at an extremely delicate time"
Football must remain autonomous
"Also in light of the clear position expressed by UEFA, respect for the autonomy of Italian football is recommended and hoped for"
