Roma Weigh Loan Proposal as Tottenham Seek €30m for Udogie
AS Roma are reportedly preparing an offer for Destiny Udogie, but Tottenham’s preference for a permanent €30 million sale conflicts with Roma’s proposed loan-with-option structure.
According to journalist Ekrem Konur, in an update syndicated by Yardbarker from To The Lane And Back, Roma are preparing an official proposal for the Tottenham left-back. The report says Udogie has accepted the idea of joining the Serie A club, potentially returning to Italian football.
Different positions on the deal structure
The central issue is the proposed format of a transfer. Tottenham are reported to value Udogie at €30 million and to want a guaranteed fee for a permanent departure. Roma, by contrast, are said to be considering an initial loan with an option to buy.
A separate TeamTalk report, citing Italian reporting, says a fee of €25 million could give Roma hope of reaching an agreement. That report also says Roma are likely to approach Tottenham with a loan proposal that includes an option to purchase.
Meanwhile, FootballPlace reports that Tottenham have rejected the loan-with-option idea and will consider only a permanent transfer. If that position remains unchanged, Roma would need to alter their approach to meet Tottenham’s preferred terms.
What happens next
Roma’s reported interest and Udogie’s willingness to consider the move provide a basis for further discussions, but the clubs remain apart on how any deal should be structured. The proposed fee, the nature of any payment guarantees and whether Roma are prepared to pursue a permanent transfer are likely to determine whether an agreement can be reached.
