It’s reported that Inter sent scouts to watch Cagliari’s 2-1 win over Atalanta last night, specifically striker Paul Mendy and midfielder Alessandro Romano.

The Sardinians have had a very impressive start to the season, winning three of the first four matches, including 2-1 at the New Balance Arena in Bergamo.

That was sealed with goals from Mendy and Daniel Maldini, watched from the stands by a scout preparing a report for Inter staff.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the special observer was in his seat to keep a close eye on two young Cagliari talents.

Their 19-year-old striker Mendy certainly made a good impression, as he opened the scoring and curiously has netted all three of his career Serie A goals against Atalanta.

The other under observation was Romano, who was born in Switzerland to Italian parents, and only this week announced he was switching his international allegiance to Italy.

A product of the Atalanta youth academy, he turned 20 in June and joined Cagliari this summer on loan with obligation to buy for a total fee of €5.4m.

The creative midfielder was described as “a gem” by coach Fabio Pisacane last night, as he has one goal in six competitive appearances so far this season.
