Carlo Pellegatti has urged AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale to go out and hire Piero Ausilio to lead the management.

Ausilio has officially resigned from his role as sporting director of Inter, as announced by the club yesterday. The former Nerazzurri director is therefore free to join a new team, freed from all contractual obligations following the termination agreed with the Nerazzurri a few hours ago.

‘Cardinale can’t miss an opportunity like this’

What will his next professional move be? England or Saudi Arabia are being talked about, but journalist Carlo Pellegatti – on his YouTube channel – advised Milan not to miss out on an opportunity to strengthen their sporting department.

“An idea just popped into my head, and this time I can’t be turned down: Piero Ausilio must sign for AC Milan today! Gerry Cardinale can’t miss an opportunity like this,” he said (via Calciomercato.com)

“We’re talking about one of the most important managers of the last twenty years, who worked with Moratti, Marotta, Sabatini… a profile of both Italian and international standing.

“Right now, he’s practically free on the market, and Cardinale must have the foresight to hire a sporting director who – and I say this reluctantly – has brought home two Scudetti and two Champions League finals in the last four years.

“It may not have been all his doing, mind you, but together with Marotta and whoever you want, he has managed, even with an American fund behind him, to build a team with functional players every year, without needing to spend 200 million on Mbappé or Haaland, and knowing how to replace even those who left.

“Precisely what we’ve been missing. I’d really like to understand, dear Mr. Cardinale, what’s holding us back from taking on someone like that. I believe Gerry Cardinale has now understood that the current management is made up of good guys and excellent professionals, but that at crucial moments they have let things slip.

“They were unable to sell a player for 38 million when the asking price was 50-60 million, and today we find ourselves with six players who have not been placed permanently, but have all ended up on loan.

“Today, my dear friend Sandro Sabatini emphasised this very point: when you rely on an agent like Jorge Mendes, you spend money to acquire players, but you struggle to collect from sales.

“Mendes’ priority is to move money to acquire players, not to capitalise on outgoing players: that’s not his specialty. On the contrary, Piero Ausilio, having worked alongside great directors and managers, is an expert at doing this.”

Ausilio has previously spoke about how he was able to get one over on Milan by signing Hakan Calhanoglu on a free, but could he now come to help the Rossoneri? Whether he would be willing to instantly cross the divide remains to be seen.
