Pellegatti offers explanation for Milan’s stark improvement against Lecce: “Why did Amorim change?”

Against Lecce, AC Milan head coach Ruben Amorim opted to make several changes and it paid off as the San Siro faithful saw a 3-0 win.

This weekend’s game had to be a win. With the international break now taking place, Amorim’s side had to enter the break with a proper performance and three points, which they did, thankfully.

It’s been a largely good start for Milan. However, the defeat to Benfica did not help worries brought on by the draws against Lazio and Juventus. So, questions about Amorim had started to develop.

A regular meeting with Gerry Cardinale was framed as a discussion about the future, and it was clear that words from his press conference were being put into different contexts. Given the recent history for the Rossoneri and him, it’s understandable why, even if it was a little extreme.

Why Amorim changed his Milan XI

Amorim’s line-up choices were a big topic for discussion, with his ‘true’ starting XI seemingly still unknown. However, changes were made properly against Lecce, with a strong team named and the result has settled things.

Now, speaking on his YouTube channel, Carlo Pellegatti looked at Amorim’s line-up and the decision to make several changes at the weekend, as MilanNews relayed.

“But why did Amorim change? I think there was a frank discussion with the players, given that he wasn’t able to speak to a football man, a sporting director, or a key figure at Milanello, because there isn’t one, and obviously we hope he can be included soon.

“The players pointed out to him, for example, that Milan was struggling on the right flank of their defence, where Gila played very well on Sunday. Why? Because Chukwueze can’t cover the entire flank from corner to corner: he’s a striker, sometimes almost an attacking midfielder. And in fact, Gila, especially in the first half against Lazio, had a thousand problems, and that’s a fact.

“Another important point concerns Rabiot’s positioning: he played his best match not only because he returned to fitness, but also because he confirmed his status as one of the most important midfielders on the international scene. His goal is proof of this, with his trademark run.

“Another key aspect is the presence of Modric under his protection. We need to make a comparison: imagine Modric being a great actor. Great actors are surrounded by bodyguards who protect them from the onslaught of fans and potential problems.

“So, on Sunday, Luka Modric had his bodyguards around him and was able to perform at his best.
