Pellegatti: Man City director emerges in Milan’s hunt after Krösche and Boto ‘fell through’
AC Milan are still searching for a new Director of Football but there is no stand-out name at the moment, according to Carlo Pellegatti.
Gerry Cardinale chose to clear out the management after the final game of last season, which meant that Igli Tare and Geoffrey Moncada were given their marching orders, as well as Massimiliano Allegri and Giorgio Furlani.
Rather than hiring a new technical director, internal promotions were opted for despite the pursuit of Markus Krösche. There still appears to be a missing link after a summer in which the Rossoneri struggled to sell, and there has been talk that the German could end up arriving after all.
Pellegatti commented on his YouTube channel about the idea of a new figure arriving to lead the sporting department at Milan, with his words relayed by MilanNews.
“We need to find out from the United States how Gerry Cardinale’s scouting for the future football manager is going: this seems to me to be one of the topics. Discussions are ongoing and the work is ongoing, but for now there are no concrete names yet,” he said.
“Krösche fell through, Boto fell through, I received a rumour from City [about a director there] that hasn’t been confirmed, and we’ll see if there are any other names we think are the right ones.
“What it seems right now, but I wouldn’t put my hand in the fire even on a match, is that he should be a foreigner, but perhaps the next talks will clarify Gerry Cardinale’s mind.
“Cardinale is used to speaking at length with the people he chooses and wants to be completely convinced. We’ll see if this person is identified, as I believe they will be, before the season resumes.
“It would be important, because it would be someone who still needs to settle in and get their bearings. On the other hand, if they haven’t decided to bring him in before, they have to start somewhere; such a traumatic start, and these pressures could even prove useful to the new arrival.”
