Official: Milan confirm Saelemaekers’ ankle ‘lost stability’ after previous surgery – the next steps
This evening, an update has been provided by AC Milan themselves about Alexis Saelemaekers’ condition and unfortunately, it’s not a positive one.
When Saelemaekers was reported to be injured in training, the hope was that it was a slight knock. In fact, it seemed that playing against Sassuolo this weekend would be possible. However, neither Milan nor Ruben Amorim would rush him back.
That decision has proven to be the right one too, with the Belgian unable to resume training today and going for further tests on his ankle, as was reported earlier.
Saelemaekers’ unfortunate update
In a statement relayed by MilanNews, the latest information from the club has been revealed after the tests and it’s fair to say that it’s not a positive one.
“AC Milan announces that, over the weekend, Alexis Saelemaekers underwent further tests on his right ankle, the same one he underwent surgery on in 2024 to treat a fractured medial malleolus.
“Specialist tests revealed that the ankle, following a recent training injury, had lost stability following a previous surgery. Based on the results of the tests, a specialist evaluation is currently underway to determine the most appropriate treatment plan.”
It’s clear that the Belgian won’t play against Sassuolo – with it seeming like there was a chance before today – and maybe it may be even longer before we see him back on the pitch.
