AC Milan are unlikely to see Alexis Saelemaekers on the pitch this weekend, with the Belgian struggling with an ankle issue.

Last week, it was reported that Saelemaekers had suffered a sprained ankle in training and since then, the questions have been about his return. It had originally been stated that the Sassuolo game would be a target. However, it always came with the warning that it may be too soon.

Now, it appears that will be the case.

Saelemaekers still out

According to MilanPress this afternoon, the Belgian winger is expected to undergo more tests in the next few days with his chances of playing against Sassuolo dropping. It was already expected to be touch and go, but today’s report throws that further into the air.

The report states that his ankle is still causing him discomfort, so he didn’t take part in training today as was originally planned. As a result, the winger will now undergo further testing on his ankle to reassess the issue and establish a ‘more precise’ recovery time.

It’s certainly not what Amorim was hoping for, but with a busy October ahead, it’s best not to chance it. In the long run, it may actually be a positive that the matter is being so carefully monitored.
