Moretto: Milan’s stance on Saelemaekers crystal clear after Atalanta approach
There are rumours about several AC Milan exits in the final 48 hours of the window, but Alexis Saelemaekers will not be one of them.
With Youssouf Fofana heading for Lyon and Santiago Gimenez Porto-bound after Rafael Leao’s Galatasaray move was confirmed, things are finally starting to unlock on the departures front for the Rossoneri after weeks of stalemate.
However, one of the surprise reports in the past day involved an approach from Atalanta for Saelemaekers. The Belgian came off the bench in Friday night’s win over Venezia and provided a winning contribution, getting an assist for Goncalo Ramos’ opening goal.
He can play multiple roles too, as Ruben Amorim admitted: the former Roma and Bologna loanee can operate as a wing-back or as an attacking midfielder. It is in the latter that he has started to shine.
Saelemaekers going nowhere
In a video posted on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, Matteo Moretto aimed to clarify Milan’s stance on Saelemaekers amid the talk that he could be a late exit candidate.
“I wanted to clarify that AC Milan are not selling Saelemaekers, despite the many rumours surrounding his future,” he said.
“The club believes deeply in Saelemaekers and his qualities. Amorim wants him to stay, so there’s complete unanimity and consensus. Despite the various rumors, Saelemaekers will remain with the Rossoneri.”
