MN: When Modric will have the opportunity to break Milan record held by Ibrahimovic
By: Oliver Fisher
On September 9, Luka Modric turned 41, but on the pitch he continues to impress and make a difference for both AC Milan and Croatia.
As MilanNews recall, Modric’s latest feat dates back to a few days ago when he scored in a UEFA Nations League match against the Czech Republic. In doing so, he became the oldest goalscorer in the history of his national team, but when will he be able to achieve the same record for Milan?
The record belongs to Zlatan Ibrahimovic , who on 18 March 2023, became the oldest goalscorer in the history of the Rossoneri, scoring (from a penalty) against Udinese at the age of 41 years, 5 months, and 15 days.
Behind the Swede in this ranking is Alessandro Costacurta, who also scored from the spot against Udinese on 19 May 2007 and was 41 years and 25 days old on that day. Finally, on the third step of the podium is Modric, who decided the match away to Pisa last season with a goal at 40 years, 5 months, and 4 days.
When will the Croatian be able to overtake Costacurta and Ibrahimovic? To get past the former Italian defender, Modric will only need to score after the end of this international break, starting from Sassuolo-Milan on October 11th.
It will take a little longer to displace the former Swedish striker from the top of this special ranking. Modric can become the oldest goalscorer in the history of Milan if he scores after 25 February 2027. The first possible match to do so will be Como-Milan, scheduled for the weekend of February 27-28.
