AC Milan and Adidas could once again work together once the deal with PUMA comes to an end in 2028, a report claims.

After Footy Headlines fuelled the rumours of a possible reunion with their report on Wednesday, MilanNews are now confirming that the Rossoneri could return to wearing the Adidas brand starting in the 2028-29 season.

The rumour has been growing steadily over the past few hours, and discussions between Milan and the German brand are ‘at an advanced stage’. The current agreement with PUMA expires in 2028 and thus the club are allowed to negotiate with brands interested in taking over.

It should be emphasised that a clear message is emerging from Casa Milan: PUMA are a very important partner, with whom the club works and will continue to work in symbiosis until the current contract expires. The deal hasn’t been signed yet, but multiple sources say talks are well underway.

A long history together

The first shared journey between the two brands dates back to the 1978-79 season, the one of the first star Scudetto. On that occasion, Adidas made its debut in Serie A, with the partnership ending at the end of the following season.

The return of the Milan-Adidas pairing took place in the 1990-91 season, when the relationship between AC Milan and Kappa ended. Milan won the European Super Cup and Intercontinental Cup in 1990, as well as the first two Scudetti under Capello, before moving to Treviso-based Lotto.

In 1998, the parties shook hands for the third time, with the partnership seeing adidas support Milan in winning their last international trophies, including the Champions Leagues in 2003 and 2007. The contract between the parties was replaced by one with PUMA at the start of the 2018-19 season, signed by then-CEO Marco Fassone.

In recent months, rumors of discussions between AC Milan and Nike had surfaced , but they never materialised. As for Adidas, it’s worth noting the German brand’s expansionist phase, which aims to capitalise on the stalemate of Nike.
