Milan, Nkunku to Leipzig is the fourth loan departure: how many temporary deals they can do before the end of the transfer window
So far AC Milan have let four players leave, always under the same formula: what the regulations say
The curtain is coming down on Nkunku's time at AC Milan: the French centre-forward will undergo his medical with RB Leipzig tomorrow. The former Chelsea player made an emotional choice, deciding to return to the club that had been his home from 2019 to 2023 rather than accept Newcastle's advances, even though the English club were offering more to AC Milan. The Rossoneri have therefore completed the loan deal for a €3 million fee with an option to buy for €30 million. One curiosity: AC Milan have sold four players in this transfer window and all of them on temporary deals.
How many players can AC Milan send out on loan?
AC Milan still have several players outside the project and waiting for a move. That raises the question: how many loan deals can they do? According to Articles 103 and 117 of the NOIF, the FIGC’s internal organisational rules, each professional club can carry out a maximum number of incoming and outgoing loan operations (the limit is set at 9 total operations for the season).
Clubs cannot complete more than 3 total loan deals (incoming and outgoing combined) between the same two clubs in the same season.
Meanwhile, players aged 21 or under and players developed in the club’s academy ("club-trained") are generally exempt from these numerical counts.
Who can still go out on loan
Tomori is on the way out, with AC Milan pushing for a permanent sale to Aston Villa or another Premier League club such as Coventry, who have shown a certain level of interest. Fofana could leave on a temporary deal, provided the clubs in the running are willing to accept a very expensive loan. Bondo is valued at €8 million but is likely to leave on loan in a late move. Zeroli is also in the balance: Amorim has not brought him into the first team and he is waiting for the right offer to leave on a temporary basis.
