It’s no secret that Gianni Rivera doesn’t see eye to eye with the AC Milan owners RedBird Capital, as made clear once again at the Festival dello Sport.

Just last week, Rivera was asked about Milan’s American era and didn’t hold back, slamming RedBird and Gerry Cardinale for not understanding Italian football. Above all, he wasn’t happy with the fact that he wasn’t even invited to the club’s 125th anniversary.

Rivera, who is Milan’s third-best goalscorer in history, isn’t the only one who has said a few well-chosen words about how the Rossoneri are being managed. For example, Paolo Maldini left the club because he didn’t agree with the methods.

Yesterday, Rivera was a key speaker at the Festival Dello Sport and once again made his thoughts clear about RedBird (via MilanNews). He blamed them for focusing too much on money, as opposed to winning and achieving sporting success.

On the American ownership of Milan…

“When Maldini took over at Milan, he called me and told me that whenever I wanted, there was a seat in the stands for me to watch the team. Then, when he left, they stopped inviting me, and they even forgot about me at the 125th anniversary party.

On Cardinale’s project…

“I thought Americans only played football, which isn’t the same as Italian soccer. But since the dawn of time, money has been the boss. Americans have a lot of money, so they don’t care about not winning.

“They want to use their money according to their own mentality, and that’s what’s happening. Cardinal? He’s the cardinal, but I’m the pope,” he stated.
