Milan and Inter battle for Cagliari starlet Mendy

Inter have moved ahead of Milan in the race for Paul Mendy, with the Cagliari forward attracting interest from both sides of the city.

According to La Repubblica, via Calciomercato.it, new Inter sporting director Dario Baccin has watched the 2007-born attacker on several occasions and given the green light to a possible move.

Milan remain attentive but have not matched Inter’s groundwork, leaving the Nerazzurri in front as things stand. No terms with Cagliari have been reported.

Mendy is the latest name to emerge from a Cagliari side enjoying an excellent start to the season, with Alessandro Romano and Daniel Maldini both drawing attention of their own, Romano has already made his Italy debut and is being tracked by Juventus as part of their new scouting approach, while Maldini is among the nominees for September’s Player of the Month.

For Inter, it fits a pattern of moving early on young Serie A talent rather than competing at the top of the market. Whether Cagliari are willing to sell in January, with the club climbing the table, is another question entirely.
