Messaggero: Milan fans could outnumber Lazio two-to-one at the Olimpico – the reasons

Lazio fans will continue their boycott for Saturday’s game against AC Milan, while will lead to them being outnumbered.

Despite the fact that their stance has been firm until now, there were a couple of reasons to doubt whether the home fans would continue their protests for the game at the Stadio Olimpico this weekend, based on past and present events.

The first is that last season the Laziali called off their boycott and returned to pack out the stadium for their 1-0 win over Milan in the second half of the campaign. The second is that they have started the season brilliantly under Gennaro Gattuso, with three wins out of three so far in Serie A.

However, Lazio fans are not backing down and will continue their boycott for Saturday’s clash against Milan. Gattuso’s side may be top of the league, but that has done nothing to weaken the protest against the ownership and, more specifically, Claudio Lotito.

According to Il Messaggero (via Calciomercato.com), 12,000 tickets have been sold so far, plus 3,000 season-ticket holders. Of those individual tickets sold, 9,000 to 10,000 will be Milan supporters. That should leave around 6,000 Lazio fans dotted more or less everywhere, against Milan’s 12,000+.
