Marotta settles the future of Inter star: no room to talk of his departure
Inter president Giuseppe Marotta has slammed the door on speculation over a possible departure for Argentina's Lautaro Martinez, insisting the Nerazzurri captain has no reason to leave.
Marotta told DAZN before Inter's clash with Monza in the opening round of the 2026-2027 Serie A season: "Lautaro is our captain and he represents Inter's history at present, and there are no circumstances that would push him to leave. We should not even be talking about it."
Those words land at a time when reports over the Argentine striker's future keep resurfacing. Martinez remains pivotal both technically and as a leader, and stands out among the squad that were crowned Italian league champions.
Inter's ambitions
According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Marotta spoke about the team's objectives for the new campaign. Holding the league title, he argued, obliges the players to raise their ambitions while keeping the mentality that drove the club's recent successes.
"We must raise the ceiling of our aspirations, in the knowledge that we are champions of Italy," he explained. "We start with the same motivations and objectives we had last season, holding on to the winning culture that has distinguished us in recent years."
Continuity underpins the whole project, the club president noted, though the management had to weigh the age of several players this summer. He pointed to a dressing room boasting more than 30 titles, giving the group huge experience and weight.
Possible moves
On the transfer market, Marotta left the door open to fresh deals before the window shuts. Any move, he stressed, would come in coordination with the coach and in line with the team's needs.
The management is watching the opportunities on offer in the final stretch of the mercato, he added. "If a real need arises, we will reinvest," said Marotta, who believes the current squad already has everything it needs to compete.
Inter open their title defence against Monza at the San Siro. It is an early test for a team out to retain their crown and cement their place among the giants of Italian football.
