Juventus are reportedly targeting Liverpool defender Giovanni Leoni and Frosinone goalkeeper Lorenzo Palmisani as part of a longer-term plan to strengthen the club’s Italian core in 2027. The reported interest fits into the Bianconeri’s broader rebuilding phase, rather than pointing to immediate additions.

Football Italia, relaying reporting from La Gazzetta dello Sport, identifies both players among the Italian talents Juventus hope to recruit in future windows. The report describes a planning direction, not completed transfers: it does not say Juventus have agreed deals or made formal bids for either player.

Why Juventus want a stronger Italian core

The source points to a striking recent pattern: Juventus started their two latest matches before the international break without an Italian outfield player, and did the same against Sassuolo on September 13. Injuries to Manuel Locatelli and Andrea Cambiaso contributed, but the report says the first-team squad remains relatively short on Italian-born options.

The Italians permanently based with the first team are listed as goalkeepers Guglielmo Vicario and Carlo Pinsoglio, along with Cambiaso, Federico Gatti, Locatelli, Daniele Rugani and Jeff Ekhator. Of that group, the report identifies Vicario, Cambiaso and Locatelli as the players expected to start regularly in Serie A. It is a lean base compared with the spine behind Juventus’ nine consecutive Scudetti, built around figures including Gianluigi Buffon, Leonardo Bonucci, Andrea Barzagli, Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Pirlo.

Palmisani is presented as a Frosinone goalkeeper and Italy Under-21 player whom Juventus view as a potential long-term option. Leoni, meanwhile, is a Liverpool youngster recovering from a year-long knee injury; Juventus reportedly explored taking him on loan as he worked towards his return. The interest in emerging Italian talent also echoes the club’s monitoring of young, Italy-linked players.

Vicario option and future targets

Juventus have an option to make Vicario’s move permanent for €8 million at the end of the 2026-27 season. The primary report gives no fee, valuation or contract details for Leoni or Palmisani, and says Riccardo Calafiori and Michael Kayode would almost certainly be beyond the club’s price range in the summer.

La Gazzetta dello Sport places the wider recruitment focus between January and June 2027. Kayode and Fiorentina midfielder Cher Ndour are also named as Italian targets, but Leoni and Palmisani remain the central names in this reported long-term effort to give Juventus a deeper national backbone.
