The 29-year-old started for Iceland in their UEFA Nations League opener against Estonia on Saturday. Before the half-hour mark, the Fiorentina loanee went down following a collision with Estonian defender Marten Kuusk, hurting his shoulder in the process.

Gudmundsson Felt Severe Shoulder Pain

As Il Messaggero reports, Gudmundsson felt severe pain in the collarbone while leaving the pitch. The medical staff immediately applied ice to the damaged spot, and the player later reassured his teammates. After the 1-1 draw, Iceland manager Arnar Gunnlaugsson didn’t provide any answers regarding the attacker’s condition.

The Lazio player is thus expected to undergo the necessary clinical tests to determine the extent of his injury. At this stage, Gudmundsson certainly risks missing out on Iceland’s next three Nations League fixtures against Luxembourg, Bulgaria, and the reverse fixture in Estonia.

Lazio Sweating Over Gudmundsson Injury Scare

This could be another blow for Gennaro Gattuso, who recently lost Matteo Cancellieri to an injury he sustained while on vacation, although the Italian winger’s condition isn’t considered serious. Lazio will be hoping to have Gudmundsson at their disposal in the coming weeks and that his condition won’t require a lengthy stoppage.

A Worrying Precedent for Lazio

It should be noted that Nicolo Rovella spent almost three months on the sidelines after suffering a similar fall during an away game against Cagliari in February. The Italian midfielder dislocated his shoulder, which required surgical intervention.
