Lazio 3-3 Juve Stabia: Entertaining Friendly at Formello
At the Formello Training Centre, Lazio played their second friendly of the extended international break, hosting Serie B boys Juve Stabia.
Absent Lazio Players
Lazio entered the game without the eight players who were called up for international duty: Christos Mandas, Oliver Provstgaard, Gustav Isaksen, Josip Sutalo, Kenneth Taylor, Davide Frattesi, Nuno Tavares, and Albert Gudmundsson, who returned early after dislocating his shoulder.
The Iceland star joined Nicolo Rovella, Adam Marusic, Danilo Cataldi, Adrian Przyborek, and Bruno Galassi on the sidelines, while Fisayo Dele-Bashiru made his return to the squad.
Lazio Starting Lineup
Gennaro Gattuso once again tested a 4-2-3-1 formation while keeping the same lineup that played against Arezzo last weekend. Edoardo Motta started in goal behind Romano Floriani Mussolini, Danilho Doekhi, Diogo Leite, and Alfonso Pedraza.
In midfield, Valerio Farcomeni joined Reda Belahyane in the double pivot. Club captain Mattia Zaccagni started on the left wing, with the young Federico Serra on the opposite flank, while Andrea Pinamonti led the line, with Tijjani Noslin behind him.
Tijjani Noslin Breaks the Deadlock, Davide Buglio Responds
While the Biancocelesti held possession, they created few chances in the first 30 minutes. They eventually managed to break the deadlock at the half-hour mark when Pinamonti picked up a loose ball following a scramble inside the box and found Farcomeni on the left side. The young midfielder teed up Noslin with a perfect cross, and the Dutchman’s header sailed into the far corner.
However, Lazio’s lead was short-lived, as Juve Stabia levelled the score less than two minutes later from a corner kick that found no one in particular, but David Buglio was the quickest to react, slotting it past Motta from close range.
Mattia Zaccagni & Fabio Maistro Score Late First-Half Goals
In the 39th minute, Lazio retook the lead thanks to Zaccagni. The hosts’ pressing paid off, as Pedraza collected a poor pass, skipped past his marker and trotted towards the byline before feeding his captain with a back-pass. The winger’s first-time attempt took a small deflection, but it was enough to upset the goalkeeper.
But once again, the Aquile failed to maintain their advantage for more than a few minutes. Fabio Maistro received the ball on the edge of the penalty box, and he found the bottom corner with a delicate shot that beat Motta.
Andrea Pinamonti Squanders a Spot-Kick
After the break, Lazio had an inviting opportunity to lead for the third time. Juve Stabia’s Substitute goalkeeper Pietro Boer played a poor pass that was intercepted by Noslin. The Lazio striker was brought down by Thomas Battistella inside the box. However, the goalkeeper was able to atone by pulling off a solid save on Pinamonti.
Sana Fernandes Scores Brilliant Goal
In the 65th minute, the visitors took the lead for the first time, as Lazio were punished by none other than their own player, Sana Fernandes. The loaned-out winger controlled a long ball expertly before prevailing in his duel against Manuel Lazzari. Finally, he chipped it past Motta before apologising to his parent club.
Pinamonti Make Amends With Equaliser
After wasting a penalty, Pinamonti was able to get on the scoresheet in the 78th minute. Boer committed another blunder, as he was caught napping on the ball outside his penalty box, allowing Noslin to pick his pocket. The ball reached the Italian striker, who easily directed it towards the empty net.
The Biancocelesti had several chances to find a winner, but the result remained unchanged. Gattuso will welcome back his international players next week before resuming the Serie A campaign with a home fixture against Monza on October 11.
