Mike Maignan is clearly a leader at AC Milan and the feeling is the same with the French national team, with a Roma player admitting as much.

At Milan, it’s very much clear that Maignan is the leader of the team. He wears the armband and has been at the club the longest. Even if he’s a goalkeeper – which some feel isn’t the best position for a captain – he’s well respected and it’s clear that he’s a good representative for the team.

With the French national team, it’s not as simple. Kylian Mbappe normally wears the armband and whilst Maignan has filled in a few times, there’s not a set second captain it seems with Les Bleus.

Nevertheless, the squad still respect him highly and he’s again seen as a leader of the squad internally.

Kone’s respect

During the international break, Manu Kone spoke at a press conference from Clairefontaine and he admitted as much, even if he plays for a rival club, as MilanPress relays.

“He’s a great goalkeeper, AC Milan’s captain. In Italy, it’s difficult to score against him; he takes up a lot of space. With his voice, he’s AC Milan’s leader; he’s a great teammate. I’m very happy to have him in the national team; we’re proud of him.”
