Inter’s Diouf Targeted for 80 Minutes Without Losing His Edge

Cristian Chivu has explained how Inter are managing Andy Diouf’s physical and tactical development at Appiano Gentile, with the immediate goal of stretching his effective output from 60 minutes of quality to a full 80 without blunting his attacking instincts.

The Nerazzurri coach addressed the topic in his press conference ahead of the clash with Udinese, according to TuttoMercatoWeb. It comes after a short, demanding pre-season shaped by the World Cup calendar and long-haul friendlies that did little for squad cohesion.

Chivu On Diouf’s Growth

Chivu was direct when discussing the margins for improvement in Andy Diouf‘s game, framing it as both a conditioning and a tactical question.

The message is clear: give Diouf more fuel without stripping away the carefree edge that makes him dangerous in one-on-ones.

Diouf’s rise owes little to the transfer market and everything to work on the training pitch. Inter’s interest was first sparked by a goal he scored against Fiorentina at the Franchi in a Conference League tie, a moment that put him firmly on the club’s radar.

From there, Diouf has been reshaped at Appiano from a box-to-box, attack-minded mezzala into a right-sided option, moving from emergency cover toward being viewed as a genuine long-term alternative to Denzel Dumfries.

Chivu’s calculation is simple. If Diouf can hold his intensity and freedom for 80 minutes rather than 60, Inter gain a more reliable weapon on the right, one whose growth has been entirely made in Appiano.
