Inter Trust Academy Attackers as Chivu Rules Out More Forwards

Cristian Chivu has signalled that Inter see no need to add another forward this summer, pointing to a trio of academy attackers already inside the group as cover behind Lautaro Martinez, Marcus Thuram and Pio Esposito.

Speaking in a double interview with Sky and SportMediaset, according to TuttoMercatoWeb, Chivu said Inter effectively have a fifth, sixth and seventh striker on the books, not necessarily in that order, naming Lavelli, Mosconi and Iddrissou as the players he can call upon.

The coach made clear those options come from the Under-23 and Primavera setups rather than the transfer market. His comments land just over a week after Curtis Jones completed his move to Milan on 20 August, with Luis Henrique’s stalled exit having already complicated any late incoming deal up front.

No fixed starters as Cagliari trip looms

Lautaro and Pio Esposito are set to start together again away at Cagliari, with Thuram now fully back in group training and pushing for minutes of his own. Chivu insisted there are no fixed starters at Inter, since places in football are never guaranteed, and praised Esposito’s ability to raise the level of those around him in the forward line.

That leaves Chivu with genuinely difficult calls to make across the season, as he himself acknowledged every one of his attackers merits a starting shirt.
