Inter and Long-Tenured Director Ausilio Part Ways

Piero Ausilio decided to leave Inter after 28 years. The parties quickly reached an agreement on an early contract termination, rather than waiting for its natural conclusion in 2027. His renewal was the root of the issue, La Repubblica reports.

The executive asked for a three-year extension. Instead, the team offered just a seasonal one, and he didn’t take it too kindly. Rather than prolonging the talks, he elected to pack up his bags and start looking for a new team.

Inter will promote from within, elevating the right-hand man of Ausilio, Dario Baccin. He has been at the club since 2017 after getting his start behind the desk as a scout at Siena and serving as a technical director and youth academy coordinator at Palermo for five years.

The Nerazzurri let it be known that the decision was consensual and not related to some recent sagas, like the Marco Palestra one or some delayed extensions. He had turned down Al-Hilal and other foreign clubs in the past because he thought he’d stay in Milan for a while. He could end up at Tottenham now, Tuttomercatoweb reports.

The exec navigated several eras of the club, from Massimo Moratti to Erick Thohir, Steven Zhang and finally Oaktree, dealing with diverse ownership styles and budgets.

It’s arguably more surprising that he’s been at the club for so long and under many governors rather than that he’s leaving now that they are in a great spot. It’ll be interesting to see where he’ll land, as his versatility is an asset. The only big Italian team in need of a director is Milan, but he’d have to be really spiteful to head there.
