Icardi ‘is courted assiduously by Lazio’ as free agent, confirms representative
Mauro Icardi is a free agent and his representative confirms ‘Lazio are courting him assiduously,’ but he is looking above all for ‘a lifestyle choice.’
The Argentine spent much of his early career in Italy with Sampdoria and then Inter, until his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in 2019.
He moved on to Galatasaray in 2022, where he remained until his contract was allowed to expire on June 30 this year.
Icardi on Lazio radar
It is no secret that Lazio have made an approach, but he has so far been hesitant to accept a club that isn’t in any European competition this season and already crashed out of the Coppa Italia.
“Mauro is evaluating the best project, a lifestyle choice rather than an economic one,” representative Letterio Pino told Sky Sport Italia.
“Mauro wants to choose a beautiful city and a wonderful place to play his football.”
When pressed on the approach from Lazio, the Icardi agent did not deny that Gennaro Gattuso’s side was particularly enthusiastic.
“Lazio are courting him assiduously, it is one of the options we are considering,” he confessed.
Although the Aquile have struggled in the Coppa Italia, knocked out 2-0 at home by Mantova, they did win their first two Serie A matches against Bologna and Genoa.
Other proposals on the table for Icardi are believed to come from Club Atletico Platense, Besiktas, Benfica, Real Betis and Sao Paulo.
