Juventus finally part company with a flop after years.

Arthur Melo's time at the Italian giants is over. As the Old Lady announced, the Brazilian's contract has been terminated early. "This operation results in a negative economic effect of around six million euros following the adjustment of the net book value of the player's registration rights", the Turin club said in an official statement.

Melo joined Juventus from Barcelona in 2020 in a controversial swap deal involving Miralem Pjanic, with a total value of 80 million euros. He never came close to justifying that huge transfer fee.

At Juve, the midfielder failed to establish himself and the club sent him out on loan four times, to Liverpool, Fiorentina, Girona and most recently Brazilian top-flight side Gremio.

Those moves brought little change, though Fiorentina was the exception. His high salary also proved a major obstacle. It is said to have been around five million euros net per year.

Since his move to Turin six years ago, the 22-cap Brazil international made only 63 competitive appearances for Juventus and scored one goal. His last competitive appearance for Turin came in the Coppa Italia final on 11 May 2022 (4-2 aet). Melo is now without a club.
