Gila believes Milan ‘deserved something more’ despite ‘disastrous’ first half

Mario Gila has admitted that it was very much a game of two halves for AC Milan as they came from behind to draw with Lazio.

After 45 minutes it looked like being a negative return to the capital for Gila, who of course arrived from Lazio in the summer window. Mattia Zaccagni and Tijjani Noslin scored in the first half to give the home side a commanding lead, one their efficiency had warranted.

However, one of Ruben Amorim’s half-time substitutions paid off as he brought Diego Moreira off the bench at left wing-back. He scored twice inside three second-half minutes with a volley and a sweet first-time strike to bring the Rossoneri level, which is how it would remain.

‘We can be one of the best in the league’

Gila was interviewed by DAZN after the final whistle to give his thoughts on a rollercoaster game against his former club. His comments have been relayed by MilanNews.

Was this a Milan of two halves?

“Yes, the analysis is very correct. I think we were disastrous in the first half, honestly. We weren’t the Milan we want, and it was a very different match from the second half, where we understood who we are, where we play, and we certainly did much more than in the first half.

“I think that, after the work we did in the second half, we deserved something more. The second half was very positive, but we need to work hard to avoid a repeat of the first half, and we need to maintain the positive feelings from the second half.”

What went wrong in the first half?

“In the first half, we lost too many balls. When we’re good with the ball and precise, we can be one of the best teams in the league, as we saw in the second half.

“We played an incredible second half, but it’s true that when you’re not in top form, any Serie A team can create danger in duels. We saw that against Lazio: they’re having a very good run, and we repaid them.”
