Gentleman Fair Play Award: Motta Vying With Inter, AC Milan & Juventus Stars

Lazio goalkeeper Edoardo Motta landed on the final shortlist for the 31st edition of the Gentleman Fair Play Award.

Edoardo Motta Enjoyed a Stellar 2026

The 21-year-old enjoyed a surprising breakthrough in the final months of the previous campaign. The Biancocelesti bought him from Reggiana in January for just over €1 million after sending Christos Mandas to Bournemouth on loan. Motta was then called to action when Ivan Provedel suffered a season-ending injury in March.

The young custodian proved he’s up to the task, producing solid displays between the sticks. His finest hour came in the penalty shootouts against Atalanta, when he saved four out of five spot-kicks to secure Lazio’s place in the Coppa Italia final. Despite his sudden rise to stardom, Motta maintained a humble approach, displaying maturity beyond his years.

Motta has some glamorous company on the list, as the other three nominees are the iconic Luka Modric (AC Milan), last season’s Serie A MVP Federico Dimarco (Inter Milan), and Juventus captain Manuel Locatelli. Another 11 Serie A players were on the initial 15-man shortlist but make the final cut.
