GdS: Milan to exercise caution with Saelemaekers – when he could return
AC Milan are likely to exercise caution when it comes to Alexis Saelemaekers’ condition, meaning he is unlikely to be available in Sassuolo.
La Gazzetta dello Sport write that after a relaxing weekend, the Milan players not called up for international duty will resume training tomorrow. The condition of Saelemaekers – who injured his right ankle this week during a training session – remains to be assessed.
Tests have ruled out any bone or ligament damage, but it’s unlikely he’ll be available for the trip to Reggio Emilia next weekend. Given the delicate nature of the injury, Milan will be extremely cautious and, in a busy October, will only use him when there’s no longer a risk of worsening the issue.
It is a blow for Ruben Amorim who has been using the Belgian in various different roles. Having been tried mostly as a wing-back at the start, Saelemaekers has found himself pushed further forward to being an attacking midfielder where he has made a good impact.
Milan will certainly not be eased back into action after the extended break. From October 11 to 31, they face Sassuolo (away), RB Salzburg (away), Atalanta (home), Bournemouth (away), Udinese (away), Bologna (home) and Inter (home).
