GdS: Message sent to Milan as Gimenez, Füllkrug and Nkunku all score over the weekend

AC Milan said goodbye to three forwards over the summer, and all three of them scored at the weekend.

La Gazzetta dello Sport asks the question: what if the problem was Milan? Gonçalo Ramos, the €70m man, has scored just one goal in four games for the Rossoneri. It isn’t a great return for someone who was supposed to solve the age-old centre-forward dilemma.

It’s still early days, but news from abroad is also fuelling the suspicion that Milan just aren’t good for strikers. This weekend, Santiago Gimenez (Porto), Nicklas Füllkrug (Werder Bremen), and Christopher Nkunku (Leipzig) all scored. These forwards were signed by the Diavolo, and then ‘binned off’.

The forgotten trio score

The two-day event for former strikers was opened by Füllkrug. The German joined Werder Bremen after a disappointing six months in Italy, ending with just one goal, albeit a decisive one in the Rossoneri’s 1-0 win over Lecce at San Siro. In Germany, however, he’s already on three goals in four games, including the cup round. The latest came in Saturday’s 1-1 draw in Cologne.

Shortly afterward, news arrived from Portugal of Santi Gimenez’s first goal for Porto . Bebote scored from the penalty spot in the 4-1 Casa Pia-Porto win, breaking a drought that had lasted since 23 September 2025, when he found the net in Milan’s Coppa Italia match against Lecce. It goes without saying, this was his only success last season.

Nkunku closed out the scoring today, starting on the bench for RB Leipzig’s match against Hamburg. Ouedraogo’s injury shortly after the half-hour mark forced coach De Michelis to bring on the former Chelsea man. No big deal, though, as Nkunku was quick to respond by scoring one of his team’s five goals in a comfortable victory.
