Gattuso admits Milan could have won after second-half ‘quality’ against Lazio

Gennaro Gattuso spoke to the media after Lazio’s 2-2 draw against AC Milan, admitting that they could have dropped all points at Stadio Olimpico.

It was definitely a game of two halves on Saturday evening. Lazio dominated the first one, scoring two goals in the process, and Milan dominated the second, also scoring two goals. In the end, a draw seemed to be a fair result, even if both sides wanted to win.

Gattuso, the former Milan player/coach and current Lazio boss, was interviewed by the media after the game (via MilanNews). He admitted that the Rossoneri could have snatched all three points in that second half, but his side did well to recover from the quick Diego Moreira brace.

What kind of mentality do you bring?

“My coaching history says one thing: when I left Milan, they won the Scudetto, when I left Napoli, they won the Scudetto. I work to help my players understand how to improve every day. I work on discipline, on arriving on time, on setting rules. The players acknowledge this, and I care.”

On Milan’s comeback…

“In the second half, they stepped onto the pitch with more quality and put us in difficulty. We know that playing the way we want to play is tough for 95 minutes. We dropped back already at the start of the second half.

“We conceded two wondergoals, but we did well not to concede a third because it seemed like it could go that way in the end,” he stated.

Lazio now have ten points after four games, while Milan have eight. The Biancocelesti actually could have set a new club record with a win yesterday, as they have never managed to win their first four games in a season before.
