Fabregas explains how Liberali was convinced to pick Como over Milan return: “He knows”
Mattia Liberali was one of the big transfer stories for AC Milan this summer and him not returning has actually changed the club’s operation.
The mission to bring Liberali back to Milan went right to the very top. It seemed he was heading to Como and then the Rossoneri got involved, throwing his move into the air and opening the chance for a different landing spot. One that would see him returning home.
Despite involvement from Gerry Cardinale, though, the youngster headed to Como and for Champions League football. A sorry end to a saga which caused Cardinale to rethink the club’s youth insurance.
Indeed, the American has now committed to several long-term contracts for youngsters and this should be the norm moving forward.
Fabregas explains Liberali move
Now, Cesc Fabregas has opened up about how a move to Como happened for the young attacking midfielder, speaking at the Festival dello Sport, via MilanPress.
“I told him clearly that we weren’t taking him because he’s Italian, but for the way he plays, his personality, his character, his ability to perform even in unfavourable situations. He has other players ahead of him at the moment, but if he does the right things, he knows full well that I don’t care how old he is.”
It should be noted that Liberali hasn’t completely closed the door to a return at the right moment. So, it may actually be in everyone’s best interest for him to develop at Como for the time being…
