Dortmund youngster attracts Inter Milan interest amid uncertain future
Inter Milan are reportedly interested in Borussia Dortmund's Luca Reggiani.
According to Football Italia, the Serie A champions are looking for defensive reinforcements after selling off Matteo Motta.
But is Borussia Dortmund saying? And more importantly, where does Reggiani stand? Let's break this down:
Inter Milan target Reggiani
The Nerazzurri have completed the sale of academy star Matteo Motta to Serie C outfit Pescada. The 21-year-old never made a senior appearance for Inter Milan but was earmarked as a potential option in defense for head coach Christian Chivu this season. So for his replacement, the Italian champions want to bring Reggiani to San Siro and Football Italia further stated that Inter have also enquired about the defender's availability.
It's unclear whether the side wants him on loan or a permanent transfer, but given that Reggiani had extended his terms with the BVB less than six months ago, it would take them an extraordinary offer to price him away on a long-term deal and hence a loan move seems like the objective for now.
Reggiani open to Italy return
We've reported before that Reggiani is open to returning to Italy after garnering interest from multiple clubs in his home country. Having enjoyed a breakthrough year at Dortmund this year by coming into the first team and even impressing with his promising displays, he was set for bigger things in 2026-27 season although that notion seemed under threat with Joane Gadou's arrival.
Moreover, latest developments within the club reveal that Reggiani has fallen behind his compatriot Filippo Mane in the defensive pecking order too, which means fewer first-team opportunities going forward too.
Dortmund reluctant to let Reggiani leave
Borussia Dortmund are not interested in selling him, according to Bulinews. Reggaini had extended his contract with the club in March this year and the BVB want to keep hold of their young gun.
The club does see his potential and believe he could develop into a serious prospect soon although it's unclear how Dortmund plan to achieve it if the player isn't going to see enough gametime.
A move back to Regionalliga West with their youth academy is a real possibility in case the Bundesliga side veto all foreign interests.
Inter Milan interest attractive, but first-team chances not certain
Even if a move to Inter Milan comes to pass, it's unlikely to guarantee the player consistent gametime. It's hard to see the reigning Serie A champions going with a young, inexperienced 18-year-old - with just eight top-flight appearances under his belt - as their first-choice centre-back. He would likely be sent to their academy or be used as a substitute to give Chivu some tactical flexibility.
