New Inter Milan signing Djed Spence has completed a £30m move from Tottenham after describing the club’s history and stature as key attractions of the switch to Serie A.

According to Sky Sports, the agreement is worth £30m as a total package and includes a 10 per cent sell-on clause for Spurs. The full-back was given permission to travel to Italy on Friday for a medical while negotiations between the two clubs continued.

Speaking to Inter TV after his arrival, Spence said Inter’s history was the biggest draw, pointing to the trophies at the club’s headquarters as evidence of its scale. He said he is a player who likes to take risks and that supporters can expect that approach from him at Inter.

Why Inter moved for Spence

Inter had been looking for a new option at right wing-back and turned their attention to Spence after struggling to strike a deal for Al Ittihad’s Moussa Diaby. Spence had previously spent a six-month loan spell with Genoa from January 2024 and said his time in Italy had been a special experience.

Spurs signed him from Middlesbrough in a deal worth up to £20m in July 2022. Negotiations between Tottenham and Inter continued before a total package of £30m was reached.

Spence had three years left on his Spurs contract, with an option for a further year, but faced competition on both flanks. Pedro Porro was Spurs’ first-choice right-back, while Destiny Udogie, Andy Robertson, Souza and Ben Davies could all play at left-back. He posted a farewell message on X thanking Spurs staff, teammates and supporters before departing for Milan.
