Diario AS: Palmeiras renew star’s deal and insert €180m clause with Milan sniffing

Palmeiras have moved to renew the contract of one of their rising stars, amid interest from AC Milan and Atletico Madrid.

Milan hope that they have their long-term options for the centre-forward position with club-record signing Goncalo Ramos and teenage sensation Francesco Camarda. However, they are always on the lookout for talent that can bolster the attack.

Milan force Palmeiras’ hand

According to Diario AS (via X), Palmeiras have renewed the contract of José Manuel López’s until 2030 and have included a €180m release clause, after strong interest in the striker from Milan and Atletico Madrid this summer.

Palmeiras want to keep the Argentine at all costs as they consider Flaco López as the best striker on the continent. The 25-year-old can also play as a second striker and is left-footed, something which may be of note given Milan hunted for a right-sided attacking midfielder.

Standing at 6ft3, the San Lorenzo-born forward bagged 22 goals in 59 games for Lanus in his home country. Then, Brazilian giants Palmeiras came knocking and he has since bagged 78 in 226 competitive games for them, adding 26 assists too.

He has played seven times for the Argentine national team which is nothing to be immediately discarded, given they boast the likes of Lautaro Martinez, Lionel Messi and Julian Alvarez in the forward department already.
