What really happened between Inter and Piero Ausilio? The sporting director left what had been his home for the past 28 years after failing to agree terms on a new deal before his contract expires in 2027. According to the Corriere della Sera, he earned €1.5 million over the last year, slightly up on the €1.3 million he had been taking home in recent seasons. The club offered him a renewal that the sporting director saw as offensive: a one-year extension until 2028, bringing it into line with the expiry dates of the coaching staff contracts, along with a slightly improved salary. That is, €1.4 million plus bonuses. Ausilio felt the club did not value him highly enough. He had expected a longer extension and, above all, different figures. According to reports, he wanted a three-year deal with a €300,000 pay rise.

Thanks to the owners, directors and all the staff, who over the years placed their trust in me, giving me the honour of leading the sporting area of this giant of world football. And thanks to all the coaches, players, immense champions and real men, who with their talent and their sweat lifted trophies to the sky that will remain forever carved into the history of this club, like Inter's second star. I am leaving this role, but I will never be able to detach myself from these colours. Today it is not only a professional chapter that is closing: a piece of my soul is being separated from what I have loved most. Thank you, Inter".
Baccin promoted
Inter have opted for an internal solution in his place, Dario Baccin: “Dario Baccin, who works in close contact with the First Team and the Technical Area, will from today take on the role of Chief Sport Officer,” the club’s official statement reads.
