Como, Kuhn not called up for Udinese: are Fabregas leaving him out? He is on the market, where could he go
Former Celtic man left out ahead of the first Serie A match, Fabregas has placed him among those set to leave: a departure is on the horizon for him.
Nicolas Kuhn is the notable absentee for Como as they prepare for their Serie A 2026/2027 opener away to Udinese. The side managed by Fabregas are gearing up for a long season packed with commitments, including their extraordinary participation in next season's Champions League. Even as the Lariani get ready to take to the pitch, though, the transfer market remains in focus, with sales needed to trim the squad and make the final adjustments.
Against that backdrop, Kuhn has not been included in the squad for Udine, a clear message to the former Celtic player who, according to several sources, is among the candidates to be cut or, in any case, put on the market. The attacking midfielder arrived 12 months ago but has been left at home alongside those no longer part of the project. Also out are Gabrielloni, Van der Brempt, Mazzitelli, Braunoder, Azon and Fumagalli.
The decision not to call up Kuhn has caused the biggest stir: he is now out of Fabregas’s plans and for him, as for the other excluded players, a solution is being sought on the transfer market. After a disappointing first season on the shores of Lake Como with 1 goal and 1 assist in 23 appearances (although only 6 as a starter), it should be remembered that the player has been dealing with a few minor muscle problems, which could explain why the club chose not to force an early return.
Having started against Paris FC in the first match of the season, Kuhn then watched on in Como’s subsequent games. The 26-year-old former Celtic and Rapid Vienna player was highly rated last season but then slipped down Fabregas’s pecking order and only saw the pitch sporadically. With the new arrivals and possible further additions in attack, Kuhn runs the risk of playing even less. That is another reason why his prolonged absences point to a possible falling-out and a transfer could be on the way. For now no offers have arrived for him, but in the final weeks a bidding war could break out for a player who is still very highly regarded around Europe.
