Trevoh Chalobah has reflected on leaving Chelsea for Como after 19 years and revealed that he still speaks regularly with former teammate Thiago Silva, who continues to offer him advice.

Chalobah values Chelsea years and Silva’s ongoing advice

Chalobah joined Chelsea aged eight and left for Como this summer. In an interview with The Standard, he looked back on a long association with the Blues and described the move as the right moment to try something new.

He said he was pleased with what he achieved at Chelsea, including the trophies he won and the big matches he played. That gratitude matters: this was not simply a player closing the door on a difficult spell, but someone recognising what the club gave him while choosing a different challenge.

The centre-back is now at Como, managed by Cesc Fabregas, and said he is enjoying life there. He also sees playing abroad as valuable experience for a player’s CV, describing the Premier League as faster and more physical and Italian football as more tactical.

Chalobah’s move from Chelsea to Como ends a 19-year connection that began in the academy. For supporters, the length of that journey gives his departure a different weight from an ordinary transfer, even as he makes clear that he felt ready for a fresh start.

Silva remains part of that story. Chalobah said he looked up to the Brazilian while growing up, watching videos of his AC Milan performances at school before eventually getting the chance to play alongside him at Chelsea.

He studied Silva’s recovery and the way he operated on the pitch, learning to think through possible scenarios. The pair still communicate regularly on Instagram, and Silva continues to give him tips. Now 42 and playing for Fluminense, the former Blue remains a source of guidance for a defender beginning a new chapter.

Their connection is a reminder that a Chelsea departure does not erase the relationships built at the club. Silva’s possible future connection with Chelsea has also been a subject of discussion, but Chalobah’s account is focused on their present-day contact and the advice he still receives.

There is a familiar Chelsea link in Como, too: goalkeeper Robert Sanchez followed Chalobah to Italy on loan late in the window. Chalobah joked that Sanchez did not want to leave him alone. He also spoke warmly of Como, recalling a boat trip past George Clooney’s house.

On the international stage, Chalobah had made his World Cup debut in the third-place play-off against France after a late call-up to England’s squad. The Standard reported that he was in contention for a fourth cap when the Czech Republic visited Wembley on Tuesday, 6 October.

That is the immediate test ahead; beyond it, Chalobah’s own account is centred on settling into life in Italy and carrying the lessons of his Chelsea years with him. The club has lost an academy graduate, but his gratitude for those years and his bond with Silva remain clear.

In other news…

Chalobah’s departure is one part of Chelsea’s changing squad, with the club’s transfer sales offering further context on the turnover.

Silva’s influence at Chelsea remains a point of interest, including discussion of a possible coaching connection with the club.
