Zachary Athekame is shining for Lyon in Ligue 1, under the orders of former AC Milan coach Paulo Fonseca.

Athekame has been one of the most important weapons at Fonseca’s disposal, with two goals and two assists in the first six games of the season across Ligue 1 and the qualifiers for the UEFA Champions League.

He has nailed down a starting spot already, which is music to Milan’s ears. Speaking of the Rossoneri, they will welcome the defender back next July 1st. Their idea was for him to spend one year in a top-level, before returning to Milanello and entering the rotations.

“I rate my first season with Milan positively. I enjoyed it; it was a new, more tactical league. Then there was the change on the bench. I spoke with the new manager and decided to change shirts,” he said.

“I enjoyed my time in Milan, I’m a Milan player. Now I’m in Lyon, but I’d like to return.” It is a clear signal of the mutual intentions between the parties.
