It is possible that AC Milan could evaluate the free agent market after the news of Alexis Saelemaekers’ lengthy injury.

In one fell swoop, Milan have lost Pervis Estupinan and Saelemaekers. The injury to the Belgian is likely to keep him out for months and this will consequently force Ruben Amorim to tweak his ideas, while waiting to see how the Ecuadorian’s knee injury is.

According to Calciomercato.com, Milan may find themselves forced to reconsider the free agent market, where several high-level players are still available that can play in the required roles.

Two opportunities to evaluate

For the time being, it seems as though Amorim will put more faith in Diego Moreira and Davide Bartesaghi for the left attacking midfield and left wing-back roles, but there is now a lack of depth in both areas. So, they could turn to the market for a free transfer.

Over the summer, Milan were offered the former Bayern Munich player Raphael Guerreiro, who is still on the free agent list. The Rossoneri turned him down, both due to his financial demands and physical concerns about the 32-year-old, who was also offered to Roma.

However, the Portuguese is a pure left-footer and could serve as a more effective alternative to Estupinan. It would also free up Moreira to play on the right when needed too, or further forward as mentioned.

The hottest name however is former Real Madrid captain and Luka Modric’s old team-mate Dani Carvajal. The 34-year-old has an international pedigree, having won everything with Los Blancos. He’s more of a full-back in a back four though, especially given his age and previous long lay-off.
