Antonio Conte has made some interesting comments about his future, which could be construed as a message to AC Milan.

Conte is one of those head coaches that has been linked with Milan at various points in the past few years, but as of yet the paths have not crossed. The Italian has won with Juventus, Inter and Napoli, leading some to suggest the Rossoneri are an obvious next step.

There was some renewed speculation when Conte was on hand at San Siro to watch Milan play live earlier this season. However, Ruben Amorim has had a positive start since taking over and deservedly has the full trust of the ownership.

Conte has opened up to The Athletic in an interview about various topics from the Italian national team to his previous work. He also spoke about the next job he takes, which Calciomercato.com interpret as a ‘message to Milan and Manchester United’.

“There are many clubs that have somehow lost sight of their history. I’d like to go to one of those clubs to revive that history and make it shine once again. Clubs where there’s pressure, where, ultimately, you know you’re not just there to participate, but to compete,” he said.

“Even that one percent… but it has to be a one percent that can become 70, 80, or even 100 percent. It depends on how you communicate it. The coach is important, because he transmits that message, day after day.

“Napoli? It was a wonderful experience. It required a lot of energy and wasn’t easy. Having to face Inter, Juve, and Milan is no walk in the park for Napoli, Roma, or Lazio. So I used up a lot of energy. Now I’m in a phase where I just keep an eye on the situation.

“In the quiet periods, when I’m not working, the nice thing is that I can sit and watch the games, study new approaches, and be even calmer and more clear-headed while trying to adapt the developments of football to my ideas.

“De Laurentiis said that last year, without injuries, we would have won the league again? I disagree. Inter deserved to win. They’re a great team and they were coming off a Champions League final. They had also strengthened themselves.”
