BBC: Milan keen on Man Utd star Bruno Fernandes as tempting clause emerges

AC Milan are one of the clubs poised ready to make an attempt if Bruno Fernandes becomes available, it is claimed.

The importance of Fernandes to United cannot be overstated. Last season he scored nine goals and recorded 21 assists – the highest in the history of the Premier League – to secure a third-place finish and a return to the Champions League.

Milan poised for Bruno?

He remains a key part of the plans under Michael Carrick, yet there is still a bit of uncertainty surrounding his fate. According to the BBC, Saudi Pro-League side Al-Hilal emerged as contenders for the 31-year-old, but United’s resolve ‘could be about to be tested again’.

Milan, Juventus and Galatasaray are all ‘understood to be keen on the Portugal playmaker’, who has a £57m (€67m) release clause ‘available to overseas clubs’. If a bid were to come in from another club, it ‘remains to be seen how United will react’.

Fernandes’ contract has entered its final year though there is an option to extend by a further season. There is no agreement at the moment over an extension, though the player’s preference ‘is to stay at United, potentially for the remainder of his career’.

Having racked up 107 goals and 108 assists in 327 games for United, he will go down as an all-time great at Old Trafford. Before that he had 63 goals and 50 assists in 137 games for Sporting CP, where Ruben Amorim – his former coach at United – had his success. Could he follow his compatriot?
