Juventus proved the strength of their substitutes' bench against Parma on Saturday evening, in the second round of the Italian league. The men who made the difference were Nicolas Gonzalez and Teun Koopmeiners, both introduced by head coach Luciano Spalletti in the second half.

Held scoreless throughout the first half, the black and whites forced Spalletti to look to his bench. It paid off. Gonzalez struck the opener in the 62nd minute, before fellow substitute Koopmeiners added the second in the 88th, just minutes after coming on.

Opta noted that the impact of Juventus's substitutes should come as no surprise. No side has benefited more from their bench, with those players scoring 13 goals since the start of last season.

That figure is unmatched in the Italian league, though the Bianconeri are level with Inter on the same tally.

Juventus had begun the season with a 1-0 win over Frosinone. Parma, meanwhile, remain pointless after losing their first round tie to Cagliari by the same scoreline.
