On This Day in 2024, Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic produced a devastating display at McDiarmid Park, dismantling St Johnstone 6-0 to maintain their flawless start to the Premiership campaign. Despite being two years ago, the game represented Rodgers’ side at their ruthless best – playing fast, attacking football and demolishing teams.

Rodgers’ side were utterly dominant, with Kyogo Furuhashi striking twice during a blistering conclusion to the first half. Paulo Bernardo also found the net with a superb long-range effort as Celtic effectively ended the contest before the interval.

Captain Callum McGregor continued the rout after the restart with another spectacular strike from distance before Daizen Maeda, who had earlier seen a goal controversially ruled out, headed home Celtic’s fifth.

Adam Idah completed the scoring after outstanding work from Alex Valle, putting the finishing touch on a performance which showcased the champions at their ruthless best.

It was a fine period to support Celtic as Rodgers’ team played free-flowing attacking football in the first half of the season. The second half saw Celtic, who were already ahead in the league, slow down slightly as they failed to strengthen in the January.
