Watch: Former Celtic star Kristoffer Ajer scores outrageous goal for Norway
Former Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer produced a moment of brilliance for Norway with a stunning goal in their 2-1 Nations League defeat to Portugal.
The Brentford centre-back fired Norway into the lead after 36 minutes with a superb finish from the edge of the penalty area.
After two players went up for an aerial challenge and both failed to make contact, Ajer controlled the loose ball with a deft touch towards the right corner of the box.
The ball bounced invitingly in front of the 28-year-old before he connected perfectly with a right-footed strike that flew into the top corner.
It was described in commentary simply as “gorgeous” and was a finish more commonly associated with a forward than a towering centre-half.
Unfortunately for Ajer, Norway could not make the lead count.
Joao Cancelo responded with an impressive strike of his own before Goncalo Ramos completed the turnaround with the winner in the 79th minute.
Portugal then held on despite finishing the match with ten men after Francisco Conceicao was shown a late red card.
Cristiano Ronaldo was absent after leaving the Portugal camp following a fallout with manager Jorge Jesus.
Ajer spent more than five years at Celtic before leaving Parkhead for Brentford in 2021 and has since established himself as a regular in the Premier League.
