Celtic continue the defence of their Scottish Premiership title with a trip to Rugby Park on Sunday afternoon, where Kilmarnock play their first home match of the new campaign.

The champions made a winning start on Monday night as Benjamin Nygren's strike secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Dundee, although Martin O'Neill's side were far from their fluent best.

Killie were involved in one of the games of the opening weekend, but came away empty-handed after surrendering a 3-2 lead to lose 4-3 at newly promoted St Johnstone.

Neil McCann's side showed plenty of attacking intent but defensive frailties were exposed and they now face a much sterner examination against the reigning champions.

Team news

Kilmarnock welcome Robbie Deas back from suspension and the defender is expected to slot straight into the starting XI.

New signing Johnly Yfeko is pushing for his full debut after arriving from Exeter City, but Djenairo Daniels remains sidelined with a long-term knee injury.

Celtic are still without suspended defender Liam Scales, while Jota continues his recovery from a long-term cruciate knee ligament injury.

New signings Camilo Duran and Kasper Hogh are both expected to feature again after making their competitive debuts against Dundee.

Alistair Johnston and Arne Engels remain the subjects of transfer speculation but are expected to be available.

The stats

Celtic have won their last eight meetings with Kilmarnock in all competitions and have lost just one of their last 17 Scottish Premiership matches.

Kilmarnock conceded four goals in their opening-day defeat to St Johnstone and this will be their 250th meeting with the Bhoys.

Last season's top scorer Benjamin Nygren scored the only goal in Celtic's opening-day victory over Dundee.

Prediction

Celtic were made to work hard against Dundee on the opening weekend, but they still began the season with three points and should improve as their new-look attack continues to gel.

Kilmarnock deserve credit for the way they attacked at St Johnstone, scoring three times away from home, but conceding four goals highlighted the defensive issues McCann must quickly address.

The move to a grass surface at Rugby Park should suit Celtic's passing style, while the visitors possess considerably greater quality throughout the squad.

Nygren has already picked up where he left off last season and new arrivals Duran and Hogh provide O'Neill with additional attacking options.

Killie are capable of contributing a goal themselves after their positive display going forward last weekend, but the visitors should ultimately have too much firepower.
