  • Celtic won all of their final seven games in Scottish Premiership last season

  • Dundee have won only one of their last 50 games against Celtic

  • Recommended bet: Over 3.5 goals @ 4/5 with LiveScore Bet

It is advantage Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race before the champions have even kicked a ball.

With Hearts losing 2-1 at Aberdeen in their opening contest of the campaign and Rangers held to a 1-1 draw at Dundee, the Hoops have a chance to get the jump on their main rivals on the first matchday of the season.

Martin O’Neill made the big-money signing of forward Kasper Hogh from Bodo/Glimt last month and Celtic will hope that the Dane can fire them to the top of the Scottish top flight.

Dundee will be aiming to avoid a relegation scrap, but the Dee start the campaign with a tough trip to Parkhead.

Team news

Celtic defender Liam Scales will miss the opening two matches of the Scottish Premiership campaign through suspension. Benjamin Nygren is a doubt with an Achilles problem and Alistair Johnston and Austin Trusty are being monitored by the Celtic medical staff.

Big-money signing Kasper Hogh is in line for his debut against Dundee, but Jota is not ready to return from a long-term injury.

Imari Samuels and Callum Jones will miss the trip to Parkhead through injury. Finlay Robertson has been absent in pre-season, but the Dundee midfielder is expected to return against Celtic.

New arrivals Idris Odutayo, Ryan Finnigan and Alan Forrest could play a part for the Dee.

Prediction

Celtic have the opportunity to make an early splash in the title race after the opening gameweek of the Scottish Premiership season and the Bhoys are likely to be involved in a high-scoring clash against Dundee.

Martin O’Neill has added to his forward line with the signings of Kasper Hogh and Camilo Duran and the champions scored 43 goals in 19 home league matches last term.

Celtic have lost only one of their last 50 matches against Dundee and the last eight meetings between these sides at Celtic Park have finished with scorelines of 2-1, 1-0, 6-0, 2-0, 7-1, 3-0, 3-2 and 6-0.

Dundee drew clear of relegation danger last season, but the Dee were one of the weakest teams in the division and first-choice goalkeeper Jon McCracken departed in the summer while impressive young centre-back Luke Graham has left for Stoke.

Steven Pressley has used a solid defence to build form, but that may be difficult to repeat with two key performers no longer at Dens Park.

Taking over 3.5 goals looks the best way to side with what should be a comfortable and high-scoring success for the champions.

Score prediction: Celtic 3-1 Dundee
