Olise break Belgian hearts with a wonderful goal in the 88th minute

Belgium suffered a 0-1 defeat to France on Monday at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels. Substitute Michael Olise broke Belgian hearts in the 88th minute with a fine piece of skill.

Zinédine Zidane left Rayan Cherki, Michael Olise and Ousmane Dembélé on the bench. Kylian Mbappé missed out through injury. Mika Godts, who scored superbly against Italy, kept his place in the Belgian side.

Early on, Godts made his presence felt with his runs and tireless work. Van Bommel's team showed no fear, but they also rode their luck when Désiré Doué crashed a fierce effort against the bar after an individual move. The game ebbed and flowed in Brussels, with Romeo Lavia clearing one off the line.

For all the entertainment between the neighbouring countries, the first half brought no goals. Van Bommel's side looked a lot less dangerous after the restart. Dembélé came on for the visitors after 67 minutes.

Then came a big chance for Dodi Lukebakio, but goalkeeper Mike Maignan denied the substitute. Soon after, Godts fired into the side netting after a solo run. Van Bommel again urged his team on for the final quarter of an hour, while Cherki and Olise entered for the closing stages.

As the game opened up, both countries pushed hard for a winner. Lavia eventually went off to a big round of applause from the Belgian crowd. The fans were clearly pleased with the way France were being kept under control.

Yet Belgium still ended up beaten. Substitute Olise set off on a solo run from the halfway line before finding the left-hand corner. Zidane's delight was immense after watching his team win 0-1 against Turkey on Friday.
