Jürgen Klopp calls for patience as Celtic midfielder Mika Baur joins Germany squad
Baur has been rewarded for his early-season performances at Celtic with a maiden Germany call-up for the upcoming games against Serbia and Greece.
Klopp has already described the Hoops midfielder as “really exciting” and Baur will now get his first opportunity to impress at senior international level.
Germany suffered a 1-0 defeat to Greece on Sunday, but Klopp is refusing to panic and has called for the country’s newer players to be given time rather than judged on individual results.
“There’s no reason for me to fall into depression and say: we’re so bad. We’re not. But we’re also not that good,” Klopp said.
“I don’t want the players to be judged conclusively: this one can’t do this or that. If you want to criticise someone, do it with me. Let the new ones develop.
“The established ones, they’re top players in their clubs, they have my support. And feel free to criticise me, but not the boys.”
He added via X: “We don’t have to put everything in sackcloth and ashes.
“The future is as rosy as we imagine it. We’re going at it with everything we’ve got. We’ll continue down the path.”
