Joe Ledley issues 'mentality' claim over new Celtic signings
Former Celtic favourite Joe Ledley has warned that it will take time for new signings to find their feet at Parkhead this season. The Bhoys made as many as 10 new signings, and we haven't seen any real consistency from any of them so far, although some have barely played.
Mika Baur has probably been the most consistent, even with his own issues, while Camilo Duran started well but has tailed off of late.
Haissem Hassan has shown very little other than a couple of bursts of sharpness in his first couple of games, and aside from a hat-trick and a game or two of playing good hold-up football, Kasper Hogh has struggled.
There has been concern over how some of the new signings are performing, particularly the more expensive ones, especially over the last three games, which have included three straight defeats.
But former midfielder Ledley has called for patience, as someone who needed time to adapt after joining from a smaller club.
“It’s always tough when you first arrive at Celtic,” he said. “It is a shock to the system, 100 per cent.” the Welshman told SunSport.
“The winning mentality you need to have is unlike what you will experience at most other clubs. When I first arrived, it took me a few months to deal with that and understand what was expected of me. It can be difficult to hit the ground running at a club that size.
“But what a feeling it is to play for Celtic under that pressure. You need to embrace and buy into what is expected of you.
“Celtic is the type of club you strive to play for and I am sure the new boys will embrace it, and learn to enjoy it. You sometimes need a period to understand the club, what it means to so many people and the pressure and expectation. On top of that, many of them will probably be getting used to a different style of play.
“They all have to be given a lot more time to really settle. There has to be an element of patience. Camilo Duran started really well and hopefully he continues that after the break, because he looks like a top player.
“I am sure other new signings will also begin to improve too. I am convinced results will pick up again and I also expect Celtic to win the title.”
