“It’s Party Time among the Aberdeen fans,” – BBC’s pitch invasion hypocrisy
Celtic supporters have been vilified and unfairly targeted by the SMSM including the BBC these past few months for showing too much passion for the team they love.
Pat Nevin just the other day was found guilty by the BBC themselves of breaching their editorial standards bytelling lies about the Celtic supporters after he made up a story , while sitting in the press box at Celtic Park, that Lawrence Shankland had been attacked by Celtic supporters after Celtic’s title win back in May.
After vital and emotional moments which contributed to a league title win, the last gasp wins in Kilmarnock, Motherwell, and of course the unforgettable last day title win over Hearts being the ones that have caused the most excitement, and pain for those who are jealous of our success.
This has led to the Celtic supporters being labelled as ‘wrong doers’ with false accusations of thuggery also being pinned on them as the media equate an infield spill-over from elated, joyous fans with something entirely different and much more sinister, armed hooligans in masked entering the field of play with violent intent.
Who could forget the media outcry when our joyous supporters celebrated on the Ibrox pitch last March after a dramatic penalty shoot out win in the Scottish Cup quarter final over the Rangers?
A emotionally charged moment that led to the home supporters resort to violence, simply because they couldn’t handle their rivals celebrating on their own patch.
Celtic Football Club has now paid the price for that moment of harmless emotional euphoria, with an enforced one game ban on supporters, as well as a heavy fine being sanctioned by the games rulers who were scared to impose sanctions on the latest Ibrox club without upsetting their supporters, hence Celtic were brought into the equation.
So imagine our disbelief yesterday evening when the Scottish sports headlines were highlighting what was described by mainstream media outlets as a ‘joyous moment’and ‘party time’ regarding Aberdeen supporters celebrated on the Rugby Park pitch after a penalty shootout win over Kilmarnock which saw them reach the Premier Sports cup semi-finals which will be played at Hampden.
I don’t have a problem with the Dons supporters or any other supporters for that matter celebrating with their own players on the pitch in moments that. It’s just sheer passion after all, something the game badly needs.
What I, and other Celtic supporters have a gripe with is the sheer hypocrisy of the BBC when it comes to these ‘incidents’.
Will the same mainstream media now vilify the Dons supporters, and will the governing body take the necessary measures to punish the Pittodrie club? A £100k fine and a Scottish Cup tie played behind closed doors – that’s the way it works, right?
I don’t think so, which highlights both the SMSM and the games rulers sheer hypocrisy on the matter. Here’s an example from the BBC, who had the insufferable Tom English mouthing off continually about the Celtic support’s pitch invasions last season.
